Stomach Flu Woes
Getting sick sucks. I'm spending the day home from work to heal my illness-battered body after a night of sitting on, and stooping over the porcelein goddess.
"Sitting on" and "stooping over" are two very different actions, mind you. I suppose I can spare y'all the finer details of last evening's assault of viral gastroenteritis.
Despite my incapacitated state, I did manage to get online to search for information regarding the stomach flu and food poisoning. To the extent of what I could garner, the symptoms of both illnesses seem quite similar. The top few (in order of the amount of pain they caused me) include:
- vomiting
- diahrea
- nausea
- muscle aches
- chills
With these symptoms being common to both, how the heck was I supposed to figure out what I had? To make things even more complicated, there are actually various types of food poisoning caused by the likes of salmonella, e. coli, and botulism. I guess this is a question best left to the professionals (see CDC).
I managed to get through the night, and the symptoms began receding by noon today. To celebrate this joyous occasion, I decided to gather a few interesting pictures of what could have been in me.

Come on... everybody else is doing it...
On a recent trip down to Portland, one of the hottest topics of discussion amongst my close college friends Huat, Yu-Kuan, Domi, and I was the latest hype over blogging/weblogging.
Frankly, I never quite understand the obsession with posting one's rants and raves on the internet for all to see. If I want my friends to know about the latest juicy bits of news in my life (or lack thereof), I'd simply tell them. Intelligence not included will, by default, be divulged on a need-to-know basis.
I think Huat and YK were basically psyched about being able to know all the details of all the wonderful things going on in their friends lives effectively within a few clicks. YK even had a setup that would aggregate all new postings from his friends' blogs and display it on one dashboard. Wow! It's like CNN, but for your friends!
So with all this hype going on both within and outside of my social circle, I decided to dedicate my first blog entry to questioning the value of the blogging phenomenon. Is this really the next step in the evolution of human-to-human communication? To what extent does this detract from the value of the good-ole telephone conversation, or even the occasional "let's meet for coffee"?
Well, this is my inaugural foray into the world of blogging. Who knows, maybe I'll fall in love with it and soon cut off all forms of verbal/physical interaction with my friends. But that would be really sad now, wouldn't it?!
